Reservations for hotels and for lodges at private nature reserves are highly recommended for visits from December to April and are increasingly advisable in the low season, now marketed as the Green Season. They are essential for Christmas time and Easter week-some hotels have higher rates at these times as well. Some hotels and reserves offer substantial discounts during off-season months, especially in beach areas.

Once you're in the country, call to reconfirm reservations you made from home; and bring copies of your confirmation. Prices listed, high-season rates, are valid at the time of printing, however, rates do change. Use these as guidelines.

Tourist attractions also feel the impact of Costa Rican vacationers during school vacation from December through February and during a two-week midyear break in July. Beaches and parks are prime destinations.
