Investment Possibilities

Traditional Tourist Resorts, in order to attract visitors, must invest heavily in great views, tennis courts and golf courses, luxury rooms and first-class restaurants. Then, after they have sunk a fortune into a project, theres always a danger of someone building an even more expensive resort next door to lure away clientele, making your place obsolete. The facility must be top quality and well-maintained to stay even with todays competitive market. Without something special, tourists have little reason to patronize a particular resort.
Ecotourism, However, is a game played in a different league. An intriguing feature is that it doesnt necessarily require an enormous investment in land and accommodations. Quetzal birds, boa constrictors and red macaws that visitors seek are rarely found living next to a resort hotel. The only Jaguars guests will see are parked in front of the main entrance.
Ecotourists search out facilities located away from fancy hotels, discos and boutiques. The best nature preserves are located on almost inaccessible mountain tops or hidden away on isolated beach coves far from shopping centers, miniature golf and other necessities of civilization. It isnt necessary to provide nightlife, gourmet restaurants and deluxe accommodations. In fact, most visitors would be disappointed if they found them.
Land for Ecotourism Developments Can be incredibly inexpensive because it has little commercial or agricultural value, is difficult to reach by automobile, and is of interest only to ecologists and special types of tourists. If visitors have to fight their way over rocky, muddy roads to arrive at their nature accommodations, so much the better. This adds to the feeling of isolation from civilization. If getting there requires an hours boat trip, having to wade the last 50 yards to get to shore dont complain. Its part of the adventure. Let me hasten to add, its also inexpensive for the investor.
