When To Come
Tourist season is Christmas through Easter, which corresponds to the dry season. You can almost depend on clear, sunny weather, but there are occasional unseasonal storms from the north, which can last for several days. The rainy season usually takes awhile to get started in May, and often diminishes for a couple of weeks in July, a time called el veranillo de San Juan, "the little summer". The rains dwindle down in November.
There are certain advantages to coming during the off-season: The mornings are almost invariably clear and warm. The scenery is fresher and greener. The days are cooled by the rains, which for some people is a blessing, especially at the beach. The clouds usually clear in time for a magnificent sunset. Many hotels offer substantial discounts during the offseason, up to 50%. All places are less crowded, more peaceful. Less harm is done to the ecosystems in the parks when fewer people come trooping through at one time.
Since Costa Rica's tourist infrastructure is struggling to keep up with increased demand, many hotels are completely booked during the dry season, even small backpacker hotels and pensiones. This can add a bit of tension and disappointment to a "let's just explore and see what happens" kind of vacation. So be warned !! during the dry season, plan way ahead. try our hotel reservation system !! it works - > costa rica hotel reservations and bookings
