MangosMangos should be slightly soft and red and yellow in color, without any brown or mushy spots. By far the most delicious are the large mangos, given feminine gender because of their voluptuous size. The neatest way to eat mangos is to slice them close around the flat oval seed to get two meaty halves. With the skin-side down, score each piece into one inch divisions without cutting through the skin. Now gently turn each half inside out, and you will have a bunch of delicious bite- sized pieces offering themselves to you (see diagram). Ticos love to eat green mangoes sliced and sprinkled with lemon and salt. Some people get a rash or irritation around their lips from eating mangos. This can be avoided by cutting off the part of the fruit nearest the stem, as the irritation is caused by the sap.
