Costa Rica is a country where North Americans feel very much at home. Costa Rica is a country of law- abiding citizens, a place where you don't feel shivers of apprehension at the approach of a policeman or a heavily-armed soldier. This is a country where juvenile gangs and graffiti are all but unknown. It’s a place where your conscience isn't continually assaulted by obvious poverty, beggars in the streets or social injustice. It's a place where North Americans feel comfortable living in just about any neighborhood, not forced to huddle together in enclaves of other expatriates for mutual support.

One reason North Americans like Costa Rica is because -Costa Ricans are so much like us. They look like us, act like us and, importantly, think like we do. They are open, friendly and egalitarian. North Americans feel at home in Costa Rica.
