Hotel Description
La Paloma Lodge nests atop high bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean and nearby Ca?o Island, in Costa Rica's isolated Drake Bay.
The resort is spread over 12 richly landscaped acres and surrounded by dense tropical rainforest. They have planted hundreds of plants and trees that are not only lovely to see but also attract a variety of birds and wildlife.
Scarlet Macaws soar overhead, nesting nearby. Toucans can be heard calling each other from the depths of the rainforest. Hummingbirds feed on the brilliant heliconia. White faced monkeys lunch on ripe mangoes, and lizards bask in the sun. The sounds of the jungle surround you.
"Perched above Drake Bay, with open views of the`Pacific and the lush Osa Peninsula, La Paloma is a place that seems to get better with each passing hour."
They are justly proud of their 36 foot catamaran boat that makes a fast trip to Isla del Ca?o and is currently the most spacious and comfortable dive boat at Drake.?
?La Paloma is a spectacular eco-lodge experience....there is a gorgeous pool also overlooking the ocean and surrounded by jungle gardens.? ?...one of those once in-a-life time places you?ll always want to return to.
?Perched high on a hill, the private, two story ranchos are surrounded by greenery and birds, with views of Drake Bay and Cano Island beyond.?
?Excellent food(including fresh fish and shrimp) is served family style. Homemade bread is served at every meal, and night time brings rich desserts. A swimming pool and sun deck perched on the hillside have a dynamite ocean view.
?Sweeping views and a sense of jungle make these deluxe bungalows the best in the area.?
Save the Rainforest

Corcovado Foundation
The Corcovado Foundation created by members of the Drake's Bay community, is dedicated to the conservation of the rainforest. It has led the way in forming a coalition of all the conservation organizations active on the Osa Peninsula to create a biological corridor linking these areas through the creation of private reserves and conservation easements.

One of their rooms
All of their rooms are fortunate to be graced with the prevailing westerly trade winds, cooling the Lodge and allowing for ideal sleeping conditions.Their seven deluxe ranchos are spread out amongst lush vegetation maximizing privacy and seclusion. Each rancho is perched on points overlooking the vast Pacific; our open-air ranchos allow you to be lulled to sleep by the rhythm of the surf and awoken by the symphony of the rainforest.

Corcovado National Park
Corcovado National Park has been cited by National Geographic as "one of the most biologically intense places on earth" and our guided tours of the park are sure to prove them right.
Bilingual resident guides are some of the best Costa Rica has to offer. They are well versed about local flora and fauna and everyone comes away from this tour with great tidbits and a working knowledge of the history of the area.
Also known as the Amazon of Costa Rica, spans over 100,000 acres of virgin and secondary rain forest. A 20 minute boat ride from the Lodge will land you at the northern entrance to the park. Trails begin along pristine beaches, wind through deep rain forest, and follow riverbeds to magnificent waterfalls and swimming holes. This is a full day tour including a picnic lunch, transportation to and from the Lodge, and a guide. Boas, scarlet macaws, reptiles, and several species of monkeys are creatures you might chance to see.

Ca?o Island
Ca?o is a full day tour and includes guides, a picnic lunch, snorkeling equipment, and transportation to and from the Lodge.
Bird Watching
This list follows the order of the plates in the book ??A Guide to the Birds of Costa Rica??; and includes birds seen mostly at La Paloma Lodge gardens, but also those seen in a radius of not more than a half mile on any direction using the club house as a center point; this list is based only on species numbers and not in abundances;corrections and comments are welcome. By no means this tends to be a final list for the hotel, instead there is an open chance for you to add new unseen species (there is a space at the end of the list). Including the "Agujitas" river and "Cocolito" beach, places that people would normally visit!)
bug Lady Tour
The Bug Lady?s Night Hike Want a great nightcap.Try nature?s special blend: lots of spineless wonders, a splash of mammals, and a mellowing shot of jungle ambiance in a tall rainforest tumbler, and you?ve got the basic ingredients for a perfect ending to your delicious stay in Drake Bay. This two and a half hour night tour takes place after dinner (usually from 7:30 to 10) behind the Lodge in the primary forest along the Agujitas River. The Bug Lady, Tracy Stice, offers night vision optics and rubber boots. Expect to see colonies of leaf cutter ants, spiders, and adorned moths. The natural history of these critters is fascinating, especially with the human element of why we fear these harmless bugs.
Scuba Diving Tour
La Paloma Lodge offers world class scuba diving in Drake Bay and in the Ca?o Island Biological Reserve located in the southern Pacific waters of Costa Rica.
The 14,300 acres of protected waters in the Ca?o Island Biological Reserve are known for the profusion of marine life and underwater topography.
Dolphins and whales are commonly spotted while traveling the twelve miles between Drake Bay and Ca?o Island.PADI certified instructors are prepared to offer Discovery Scuba Diving, Scuba Review, Open Water and Divemaster courses. Dive guides share the underwater treasure with groups of no more than 10 divers. Safety is our priority.
Kayaking
Sea Kayaking Rio Agujitas and Drake Bay is a great way to spend the afternoon. La Paloma provides single or double sea kayaks for anyone interested in exploring the Agujitas River and surrounding Drake Bay. At full tide a paddle up river will take you under a rustic swinging bridge. The only sounds you will hear are your kayak slicing through water and the pulse of the jungle. In this intense solitude all manner of jungle life will introduce themselves to you. Peaceful Drake Bay is also a great place for fun in the sun. Kayak along the coast or surf in Drake Bay?s gentle waves.
Horseback Riding
Horseback Riding tours are not only for experienced riders. Anyone with an interest in exploring primary rain forest outside of Corcovado can tour the area with a local guide and his horses. This is a great way to get in touch with the Drake Bay lifestyle. A beautiful way to end your afternoon is by going on one of the sunset horseback rides we offer. Set your own pace and walk, trot or gallop along pristine beaches as the sun slowly sets.
