There are two ways to get to Tortuguero, one is taking the regular tour that pick up passengers at most hotels in San Jose area and then on a safe covered boat.
If you are planning on renting a car we recommend you to do it after your visit to Tortuguero, there are certain points along the route where you can arrange to pick it up (depending on your next destination).
The other way is by air, there are two domestic airlines that have daily flights from San Jose. Flying time is about 30 minutes and when you get to the airstrip we provide a boat transfer to take you to the lodge (about 3 minutes).
