On the first day of the trek, you will travel by car from San Isidro de El General to San Gerardo de Rivas at 1,300 meters a.s.l / 4,265 feet (20 Km trip, you will be pick from your hotel up in San Isidro at 5 a.m.). After an early breakfast in a farmer?s house you will begin the hike to reach the Crestones Base Lodge in Chirrip? National Park at 3,372 meters a.s.l / 11,063 feet. The journey in the tropical cloud forest will be a wonderful experience and will take in average 8 hours. The half-way point will be Llano Bonito, and here a picnic lunch will give you energy to continue. Four more hours and you will arrive to Crestones Base which will give you shelter for the following days. Dinner will make you warm before the ?first night in Chirrip?. (B,L,D)
On the second day your guide will prepare breakfast while you get ready for the hike in the highlands. Today you will visit the highest peak in Costa Rica, Mount Chirripo at 3,820 meters a.s.l / 12,532 feet, from where, weather permitting, you could enjoy the amazing sights of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans simultaneously, as well as a panoramic view of the placid lakes in the Moraines? Valley and the Valley of the Lakes. A picnic lunch at the top will certainly be the highest lunch in Costa Rica. you will continue and visit Mount Terbi at 3,760 meters a.s.l / 12,352 feet and Crestones, great rock formations of the park. Later, back at the lodge you can take some time to walk along the Talari River while a good warm dinner is prepared. (B,L,D)
On the third day you will get prepared to hike down the mountains after breakfast; the time hiking down is usually shorter than on the way up. Many beautiful things you didn?t see on the hike up, maybe because you were a little tired, will appear to your eyes to give your trip the final touch. Snack for the hike. Once you arrive to San Gerardo you will enjoy lunch and then travel back to San Isidro.(B,L)
you should bring:
Hiking shoes (waterproof are recommended), rainjacket and rainpants, fleece coat, hat and good sunscreen, camera (200 ISO Film recommended), sunglasses, hiking poles (recommended - available for rent in San Gerardo), sandals or shoes for inside the lodge,? sleeping bag (no sleeping pad necessary), towel, personal medicines, energy food, warm clothes (for inside and outside), daypack, flashlight with extra batteries.

- The Caribbean Slope has an average rainfall of 4000 mm (157 inches) a year and is very humid year-round.
- The Pacific Slope has rain between 3,000 and 4,000 mm a year.
- Driest period: From mid-December to mid-April.
- Temperature ranges in lower regions from 18?C (64? F) to 26? C (79? F).
- Temperature in the highlands from 0? C (32? F) to 12? C (54? F).
- The lowest temperature recorded in Chimp6 was -9? C (14? F).
- Night temperatures are very cold and often foggy. During the day temperature could change very brusque with incidence of clouds and drizzle.
- Bitterly cold winds can exceed 80 kph with wind chill dropping temperatures significantly.
